Bhagat Singh, An Inspiration Forever!
Bhagat Singh, the legend of Indian freedom struggle was born on 28 September, 1907. Well, we all know about him to a certain extent, Today on his 106th birth anniversary, i won't state any facts but i'll just try to remind us all that what contribution he made to make the dream of a free INDIA, come true.
Since his family was already supporting the freedom struggle, the spirit of patriotism flew in Bhagat Singh's blood. In 1919, at the age of 12, Singh visited the site of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre hours after thousands of unarmed people gathered at a public meeting had been killed.
To avoid getting married by his family, Singh ran away from his house to Cawnpore. In a letter he left behind, he stated:
"My life has been dedicated to the noblest cause, that of the freedom of the country. Therefore, there is no rest or worldly desire that can lure me now ..."
While the Indians were involved in different activities against the Simon Commission, Lala Lajpat Rai was also heading one such protest which was lathi charged where Lala Lajpat was hit by an officer, leading to his death in a few days. In revenge, Bhagat Singh along with Shivaram Rajguru, Sukhdev Thapar and Chandrashekhar Azad, murdered Saunders, who was mistaken to be responsible for Lala Lajpat's death.
Bhaghat Singh did not become popular because of his act of terrorism but because he seemed to vindicate, for the moment, the honour of Lala Lajpat Rai, and through him of the nation. He became a symbol, the act was forgotten, the symbol remained, and within a few months each town and village of the Punjab, and to a lesser extent in the rest of northern India, resounded with his name. Innumerable songs grew about him and the popularity that the man achieved was something amazing.
In April, 1929, Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt were also involved in throwing bombs in the Central Assembly hall during an active session. They, then deliberately got arrested and refused to hire any defence lawyers. Bhagat Singh along with Sukh Dev and Raj Guru were given death sentence and were hanged on 23rd March 1931.
"Every tiny molecule of Ash is in motion with my heat, I am such a Lunatic that I am free even in Jail." - Bhagat Singh.
We all pay tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. His true devotion towards our Motherland will remain an inspiration forever.
